Prof Juergen Czarske: New Fellow of the Chinese Society for Optical Engineering (CSOE)

With over 230,000 individual members and more than 800 institutional members, the CSOE is a highly significant professional society. „Fellow“ status represents the highest level of membership within the CSOE. The CSOE publishes outstanding journals such as *PhotoniX* and *PhotoniX Life*. Prof. Czarske has published in *PhotoniX* and serves as an editor for *PhotoniX Life*—a journal covering topics in the fields of biophotonics, biomedical optics, the life sciences, and medicine. The CSOE maintains long-standing, cordial cooperative relationships with renowned international scientific organizations such as the International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) and the Optical Society of America (OPTICA).

„It is a great honor and a privilege to receive this fellowship,“ said Prof Czarske. The award recognizes international collaboration and serves as an incentive for future outstanding achievements. It is worth noting that the new Fellowship was only possible due to the dedication and loyalty of the current and former members of his chair. More than 15 former members have secured professorships and form an international network; this award is dedicated to them—both current and former colleagues alike.

Prof. Juergen Czarske (TU Dresden) recently co-organized a CSOE conference with Prof. Aydogan Ozcan (UCLA) in Dresden, the International Conference on Photonics M³ (Manufacturing, Manipulation, Measurement), Sep. 2026. Prof. Czarske and Prof. Ozcan delivered plenary lectures at the conference, which took place at the Hilton Hotel near the Frauenkirche. Additionally, Prof. Ozcan gave a lecture on AI in biomedicine at TU Dresden’s Biolas Competence Center and toured the center’s nine labs. Prof. Czarske also co-organized another CSOE conference with Professor Chao-Yang Lu from the University of Science and Technology of China; this event was hosted also by the Chinese Society for Optical Engineering (CSOE) in Jinhua, China, from November 24 to 27, 2023. The event was the International Conference on Quantum Photonics (QPhotoniX 2023), which featured a speech by Nobel laureate Anton Zeilinger.

Prof. Czarske is Vice President of the International Commission of Optics (ICO); with the participation of seven societies, he organized the ICO-25 world congress in Dresden, which drew participants from 55 countries. As new Fellow of the Chinese Society for Optical Engineering (CSOE), he also highlights the global networking. It is also a great preparing for the next ICO conference, ICO-27, scheduled to take place in Beijing from August 22-26, 2027. This will be the second time an ICO conference has been held in China, following the successful ICO-20 in Changchun in 2005. Prof Czarske is very grateful for receiving the fellowship number 9, highlighting his international networking.
